Hello!
Ive just got a new laptop from my boss and im having difficulty working out the airport thing, basically it has built in wireless but when i set it up i have to put that i didnt want to connect to the internet yet as i didnt have any username or password to connect to any wireless connections.... I can turn airport on... but how on earth do i make it search for wireless internet connections? there may be none here at the moment but id like to know how to make it search at least (mayeb its doing it already but i expected some sort of message to say that and that noting was found)... im just worried ive messed it up somehow!
Any help or tips would be very much appreciated

i've got the macbook, and for a while i couldn't get it to connect either, though the various signals were shown in the list. i think as long as you have airport turned on it does search automatically for a signal, mine connected automatiicaly after a while. i think wireless is just a bit temperamental in general, sometimes it won't connect even though it has found the signal. so, patience may be the key. gr.

Cool, thanks for that, i was just woriied that because i said not to set up a connection when i first started up that id made a mess... did you fiddle with any of the crazy settings or did it literally just let you when it finds some form of connection?

Click on the thing that looks like a bunch of (((o (except the real one is vertical) up at the top of the macbook, click on it, then click Open Internet Connect. It should automatically connect though as long as you have airport on.

Hey Helix
Cheers! I have airport on and went to open internet connection and nothing happens... it may be that there is no connections here.
Basically the airport page it goes to when i click on internet connections has airport power:on
network - no network selected. also it appears unclickable), signal level... 15-16 blue boxes, base station id: not availableand status at the bottom has status: not associated with any network... not sure if any of that means anything?
cheers

you don't need to open internet connect, when you click on the airport drop-down menu on the menubar, you will see a list of the networks it can find in that menu.
