Whatcha freeakin out about?
2 words: Pain & Killer
- Engage0
yep, killer pain.
- Crouwel0
i had one a few months ago. it is terrible. fortunately i did not know beforehand.
after the "operation" it's not so much the pain as the weird and mostly tiring pounding/pressurized sensation.
use painkillers and don't drink too much alcohol.

i've had 5 of them in two seperate trips to the dentist.
first time was my top four teeth. got them busted out in a bad accident. 4 root canals. the needle to numb you up actually hurts worse than the surgery. afterwords ibuprofen and pain killers make it all good.
the last root canal i had to have after an 'incident' at a bar. fractured a tooth on the side of my mouth and the root was exposed. that one actually hurt like a bitch.
sensodiine toothpaste will also work wonders for you after.
good luck.

painkillers work. hopefully you won't be doing too many things that require a lot of concentration.
It hurts like hell getting teeth out (as crouwel said, there are some pretty weird sensations you could feel), but the pain goes away after a few days or weeks :z

The dentist I last went to was great. Didn't feel anything and they let you watch tv while they work on you, which was pointless for me because I had to take my glasses off.
- Chop-suey0
They wont fix it till after newyear..my jaw feels like its been possessed by pure evil. like evildead evil.
- Crouwel0
i think it took me about 5-7 days to really lose the sensation in my mouth.
anyway, pain is something different.
indeed the most painful bit is the needle that has to go really deep and that hurts a lot. but only for a very short moment.

(Dec 11 06, 08:05)heh, I hate that. I mean the part about random happenings like that when you can't see anything because you have to take your glasses off...
- mayo0
yeah, and it can sometimes wig me out to not have my glasses on after awhile. I hate not being able to see clearly. So instead, I had to listen to the dentist and his assistant talk about, and i'm not kidding, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes for a majority of the visit.

root canals arent so bad as long as you have a great anestigiologist [the drug administrator]
the actually surgury is not as bad as the stories follw it, yes you bleed like a river and the swelling is mad painful but you will get the best knock out pain killers ever aand in the end...its not over...you need 2-3 visits after the initial surgury and you need to take out some paste in the rooots to make sure there is nothingthere and that its completly dry and then they need to fill it up.
remember to get the NO2 and inhale the deepest hits you can b/c once the surgury starts you wont have any NO2 to calm you down from your arms failingaround and your un-controlable muscle spasms, you may even punch out the nurses, try to aim for the ugly one!!

* Smiles big.
* Can't remember last time I was the dentist.
* Only remembers they took pictures of my alignment and marveled at how perfect my teeth were at the time.
* Leaves thread.

yes the new pain sensations after the surgury and even during is very hard to explain, its not something i ever had any other time in my life.
and thankfully never again after.
the tiny needle its not even straight and actually looks like a fishing hook as it need to hit the very bottom of the roots.
during part of the surgury i was able to see the whole thing in the reflection of the docs special magnifying eye scopes, he made a hole the diameter aas a No.2 pencil and deep as hell deeper tthan the gum line.
try to get as much local anastesia as you can get or best to be knocked out via IV line and if that is the way you can eat, drink water or that way cant be done.
its the best with no pain.
after pain is a different story but its not the pain of exposed roots b4 the surgury like you have now and nothing is worse than exposed nerves.
the best best best of root canal is going back to cold or hot liquids as it will never hurt again.
and remember if your arms are moving wildy swing at the ugly nurse!!
:)

haha the nurse was hot. But the Dentist is a scary mother...and Polish. not looking forward to it, but it cant beat this pain Im in already your right. Thinking about just punching myself out for the rest of the day, someone pass me a hammer.

every dental hygeinist/dentists asst. I have ever had was really hot.
It's almost like you wish she was a skank because of what she is doing.
- e-pill0
ihonestly asked why cant i have all my nerves pulled out so i wont ever have tooth pain again and both the dentist and the oral surgen didnt have an answer to bnot go forwaard and do it.
i ppersonally cant go thru that type of pain [exposed nerves] ever again.
root canal rock!!! when its over its over.
i was so nervous and scarred going in that when it was done i was suprised how easy it actually was.
then the after pain hit and i popped some Perkasets or was it Vicodens or was it Xanax, or was it a combo of all 3??
either way ask for Perkasets!!! they will try to pass yo usome Vicodens or Codeene or something not as strong but ask for the best!!!
as the pain is somethign you waant over or covered over with a warm blanket called numbing or being high.
looopy!!!!

my aunt once overheard my (drunk at the time) uncle, who is a dentist, trying to tell a lady at the casino they were in that he was the most famous dentist in southern california. When he closed his eyes and tried to kiss the girl, my aunt punched him. HAHAHhahaaa

(Dec 11 06, 08:08)nah, the most painful bit is the thought of the wee hook scraper thing tearing through your nerve endings deep in your jaw, while you can't feel the pain directly the rest of your mouth gets the vibrating sensation as their metal tools clean the flesh off your bones.
I've had piles of root canal, I knocked most of my teeth out in a bike accident then had a drunk dentist fit me with poor standard caps that made it worse.
roll on my 5 grand screw in job, now THAT will hurt like a bitch.
- de4k0
yikes.
to clean the canal's out they stick color coded pins down the root holes to clean them out. each pin being slightly thinner and longer than the last. they do it until they reach your nerve endings to make sure it doesn't get infected. I'm not sure whether it was the a pain of the nerve ending being twanged (Ren and Stimpyesque) or just the anticipation of this happening each time. Nevertheless when I sat up after the procedure was complete my tee was stuck to the chair and my hands were cramping from gripping the armrests.good luck.
