I need to create a photo-realistic character that will have a voice over. Would Poser be the quickest, best software to use? And do you know of any software that will help with lip syncs?

not trying to be a smart ass, but the best way to achieve photo-realistic results might be to use photos or, video - processed or otherwise. Or does it need to be 3d/graphiccy?

Vis-à-vis lip syncing, anyway.

thanks, nairn. video isn't a feasible solution because we need characters that we can easily switch out, update. The idea is to get away from having to reshoot video everytime we launch in a new language.
These characters are guides with subtle movements to help get users through an interview app. I've found some "bot" solutions where you customize pre-defined characters but they aren't very sophisticated.
Am I biting off more than I realize here by trying to bring this in-house?

---------depends if you think you can produce something better than what the bot people can do in the same time or for the same money. id say hunt around for more bot solutions. could save you a LOT of time and effort.
think these guys in glasgow will put faces and voices to text ...

thanks, 23kon. I'm looking at the link now. Yeah, it might be more cost efficient to just hire a studio to animate a bunch of characters for us.

check out face robot for xsi
poser's for max...not the best software in the world
as for your photoreal idea - why not something in between? Stylised would probably have a longer shelf life. Photoreal will just look outdated as soon as the next guy comes up with something better. You don't need it, and it'll only slow you down.

thanks, caulfield. good point about the photo realist being dated...that's partly why we're moving away from video. I'll check out xsi.

uh...face robot is a little expensive! 95k. Hoping for a cheaper solution...like 5k!
