(^ main draw is the mercury fountain from the 1929 world exhibition in paris)http://www.barcelona.com/barcelo…
(^ usually has some interesting exhibitions)http://travel2.nytimes.com/top/f…
(^ kiosko universal in the boqueria - amazing seafood)http://www.bcn.es/turisme/englis…
(^ smaller, more intimate, more beautiful cathedral than the main one)i, for one, don't rate barcelona's picasso museum at all. i find it quite dull compared to its parisian counterpart. but then again, i hate dali, too. if you want to get a feel for catalan art, you can't go wrong with the tapies foundation and the macba.
the textile museum, however, which is right around the corner from the picasso museum, is well worth a look: http://www.museutextil.bcn.es/en… (and the cafe in the courtyard has pretty good food)
gracia is a lovely place to chill out, as someone mentioned above. lots of good lebanese food up there and some lovely tapas bars.
i also quite like the museum of the history of the city: http://w10.bcn.es/APPS/wprmuseuh…
and the le cool guide is a must.

I´ve been living here for year now, and loved every second of it.
Good advice is to avoid Las Ramblas, nothing interesting to see there, if you don´t count waisted bachelor party groups, living statues and pickpockets.
Walk around El Born area after 17 when the little shops and galleries open again. Hit some galleries such as:
http://mercadodelborne.com/
http://www.iguapop.net/
http://www.myspace.com/dudua
whit good luck you´ll be there on opening night enjoying art, free drinks and hippy people. Also new Lomo shop Barcelona: http://www.lomospain.com/tienda/…
Picasso museum, Tapies foundation and Macba worth of checking. There is lots of nice little book shops, and record shops around Macba area too.
As mentioned Le Cool website and book are good resources http://lecool.com/newsletter.php…

Barcelona was the reason I didn't have a heart to leave in SF

Holy crap, that's alot of stuff! Thanks.
Yeah, pickpockets suck, but that's a hazard of cities, or so it seems, so I do what I can to have it not be an issue.
El Born looks like an awesome area - I'm making a list of all of these places - some of them all already on my list of places we're seeing, but it's all just making me more excited to go.
Heh. Of course, I'm dreading finding out exactly how rusty my practical Spanish is. Not to mention being clueless as far as Catalan.

Here´s still one brand new Gallery Shop worth of checking http://www.vallery.es/en/home
they have Non Format exhibition till 8th Dec.Locals here love, if you throw word or two in Catalan. Couple useful frases in Catalan:
Molt bé = muy bien
Adeu = adiosSome Catalan speaking NT member can add more useful frases to that list.

I did love those clubs with the girls in the cages along the bay there. Ahh the misogyny in the EU.
