I want to create a real life mural like these by felice varini or georges rousse:
http://www.varini.org/02indc/ind…I know they've been posted before, I'm not showing them to you, what I want to know is does anyone have an article showing how to make one.
I know that in theory it's as simple as projecting the image and then tracing it but I think there are more technical things involved like how to go about creating the image for the projection and how to guarantee you can photograph it from the correct viewpoint etc.The biggest clue I can get is from Varini's website, this series of images from a dvd shows him preparing the image. It looks like he's photographed the empty space first then drawn the image on top of the photo, then he projects the image back onto the space and traces it:

it looks like you've more information than anyone else around here so why not just try his examples?
experiment and maybe you'll discover something else.

true, but experimenting will take a lot of time and effort. But I suppose it will be worth it if it works, just wanted to check no one else had tried it before!

I thought I'd bump this thread two weeks later as I have now achieved my aim and finished the production and photoshoot yesterday.
The projection idea worked in the end (after a lot of convincing studio directors). It took a lot of time and effort to get everything working properly and the angles right. I obviously couldn't use paint on our studio walls and floor so I used green electrical tape in the end.
so here's a rough crop of the photo:
and the reveal:
Hopefully it will make for a more interesting xmas card than usual.
I should also add that the studio I work in does a mix of interior design and graphic design and so the idea of the card was to mix an architectural space with graphics.
No photoshop used!
