some nice work you got there.
if you are struggling to find a job in london at the moment then i'd say its cos a lot of your stuff is very minimal and uses the same sort of simpleness throughout. i dont think it is diverse enough.
its one thing having a 'style', but the trick is to be able to use it so that it doesnt seem repetitive.i hope that critisism was of help.
you do have some nice ideas though.think you need to be a bit more mainstream, commercial and 'obvious' with the ideas though to get a realistic job.
unless you are lucky enough to be snapped up by some company that actually does the kind of minimal work that you do.

or move to Holland...
but I don't completely agree, I think there are plenty of agencies that would be happy to have you as an intermediate.... but a bit more variety would be good...

You got a good handle of color, I would say just try to phunk your typography up on a couple diff projects (make them up) you dont have to have FLOURISHES AND DRIPS AND GLOWING STARS, to get a job, I like your style, I just think it lacks a little creativity with type, and btw I have the same problem, good luck homey

Wieden + Kennedy Amsterdam have a roster of terrible freelancers, send in your CV i dare say and get lucky. There's only 12 full timers there anyway and they're all starting to burn out I hear.

A designer with some restraint... I like it.

james, from looking at your portfolio on your site and looking at your cv, i suspect you 'do' have the commercial work IN your portfolio that you did a 'work'.
a lot of the work on your site seems more like your personal work.i'd either throw in some of your best 'work' work in there - or if you dont want to associate it with your personal stuff, create a new section.
if you are trying to get interviews just from sending out your url to people then i think putting in the commercial work would be an advantage.

I like it. Think it is quite restrained and maybe lacks a little real 'corporate ' work but if I was hiring and you were in Jersey I'd take you on.
But I'm not and you're not so I'm not helping much.

23kon has some very valid points (and nicely put), but I just want to say I really like your site and work that you decided to show.
Look forward to more!
