considering to get a MacBook and i really wonder if Adobe Software and other works fine on those machines running in that rosetta / universal environment.
anyone got experiences with this ? will basically use that thing for presentations but hell i don't want to throw mad $$$s out of the window for nothing.

I was in the same boat you were about a month ago. Listened to everyones advice and so I purchased an 2 intel systems. Main machine and a laptop. Both were slow so I grabbed as much ram as I could. Long story short I am unhappy and awaiting the day for cs3...
Don't do it... they are just too new right now and there are so many software bugs and issues. It really slows down your productivity. I have 4 gigs of ram and a 3.0 proc and I can barely run Photoshop and AE at the same time.
I am very unhappy... my ignorance though.

Is that for real. I was thinking of doing the same thing - currently on windows but prepared to switch to MacBook Pro. I would be interested to know if anyone else feels the same about the performance issues. I'm only switching beacuse my laptop is a few years old and everything seems to run slowly on it now.

josh. that's what i actually expected, damn it.

they're updating the whole macbook/pro range soon so you should wait a month or so anyway.

Yeah seriously it is a huge dissapointment... and now I am having troubles with flash on the mac.
Like one thing after another...
If I would have dropped the same amount of money I did for these new macs on a huge pc or not an intel mac I would be feeling pretty damn good right now.
Not the case though... trust me I was in the saaaaame boat.

half of my office have just switched to intel based macs and have experienced no end of problems with a whole host of programs.
lots of glitches in CS2 and even itunes!
both adobe and apple blame each other for these problems so it is very hard to get successful support.
my advice would be to wait, very similar to other guys response.

See my thread above -
"Mac + Adobe + flash"
I really don't understand how with all these issues the Intel Mac can be considered as a viable business machine.
(I know they look great - but I'm talking about productivity, time, invoicing, making money from designing website/flash apps with one)

I still think we need more threads on Intel Macs.
20+ over the last month obvioulsy isn't enough.

Tell me about it HumanMale. I can barely keep up with poking fun at mac users...

Ok people... this is it:
Rosetta on Intel Macs runs CS/CS2 a bit slower than on a G5 system.
Read it, remember it, tell your Mac newbie friends, get over it.

so i saved some 2000 € this morning.
btw always had issues with flash running on macs. considered buying a PC workstation for falsh development only.
damn computers !!!

hah more than a bit slower... ALMOST unusable... but even Adobe says that the suites are not made for the new macs.

i think they're running ok, just be sure to put a lot of ram in.

with a mac pro. you wouldn't notice a slowdown if you move from an older machine
also, you can run windows on the thing macbook if you need (which would be fast)
i am thinking of getting a mac pro, because i have always found that the laptops are a bit slower than what i need at the time i need it

i tried moving to a macbook pro last month, but ended up coming back to my pc for a while till they come out with cs3. the 3 main apps that i use daily are dog slow (flash, photoshop, and illy). 2 gigs of ram helped a bit, and running flash/photoshop in parallels is fine, but only fine. if you can hold out, wait till cs3 and make the switch.

how can one account for the disprity of answers in this thread? which is the truth? WE NEED ANSWERS, DAMNIT!
- myobie0
just to be clear, i was talking about the desktop mac pro
of course it's freakin fast, no matter if it's cs2 or not...and booting into windows is going to run well too
like i said, i have yet to find a laptop that gives me the performance i really want
so i am thinking of getting a high end desktop and a crappy lappy (for protableness)
