Yeah, my insurance covers part of the cost, I'm due for another check-up, and my lenses are perma-scratched.

Best thing to do is to go to a shop and try on every pair you think looks interesting. Bring someone with you to give you a second opinion. I don't trust the peeps at the store, it seems like they give you the most expensive pair. Brand names are sometimes good, but 9 times out of 10 there's similar pair from a smaller company that costs half the price.

goto a flea market on a sunday and get 20 pairs of plastic frames from the 1956-1963 time period for under $100 and take em all to get GLASS lenses and sun glass lenses in em'
get some with mirrors in em too and some with x-ray in em. them is nice.

i always go to the super dooper posh places, you know where they sell alain mikli and oliver peoples. waltz on in as if money is no object, get the person there to really help you out with it. tell them you're concerned that you won't be able to pick out the exact right kind to best flatter your face.
they will explain to you why or why not you shouldn't have square/wire/tortoiseshell whatever and you try on practically ever pair in the place.
then, once you've figured out which ones look best on you, take note of the designer and the style, say you're going to shop around a bit more, thank them profusely for their help and then go home and get them (or knock offs of them) on the internets for a fraction of the price.
job's a good'un.

Right on paraselene.
I did that once and absolutely fell in love with a pair of Oliver People's (yes, I know, how cliche). Of course the frames were $350+. After about 2 weeks of searching for cheaper prices I came across a shop selling the display frames and got the pair I wanted for $100. Frames were in perfect shape!

I never understand how people buy glasses and sunglasses over the internet. HOW DO YOU DO IT WITHOUT TRYING THEM ON FIRST???
Please tell me.

(Oct 5 06, 15:48)you can. in these stores you will have to stick your head into the monitor then an assistant will help you. then take a good look around in the deep womb of Al Gore, called cyberspace. And well, if you can see clear in cyberspace it is only a piece of cake in reality!
Gotta love Virtual Reality™

(Oct 5 06, 15:25)Sweet! I would love to get some Prada ones. I once had some really high-class brand but didn't know it until after they were worn out.
I have the hardest time finding sunglasses. Maybe I'll get some perscription ones, but I won't be wearing them all the time (for one, I live in Ottawa) so maybe that's not such a good idea. It's not practical for class and stuff b/c people would be wondering why I was always wearing sunglasses indoors. So I'm thinking that maybe I should just get contacts and then get normal sunglasses, or some hot glasses.
How confusing.

You can go to the store and try glasses on, on the inside of the frame there is #, that is the model number, then you can go on the interweb and find your glasses.

thanks, woody. I was specifically talking about ppl who just randomly go online and buy glasses because they look nice.
