i'm assuming 5.1,6 is what i need to be learning.
I'm interested in using it for forms, such as registration forms.....or surveys forms. info request forms.
am i barking up the right tree????

i'm hoping to put it in flash as well which i'm learning also.
but to do what i said before in Flash, should i be getting a more advanced actionscript book instead?? or is the PHP the better route!????

no, its really easy to learn and there are lots of free advice & helpful websites out there. apart from the above I would also recommend
http://forums.devnetwork.net/
http://www.sitepoint.com
http://www.phpbuilder.com/and Chris Shifletts website on PHP security
http://shiflett.org/ - which you will need for your form submissions

http://www.kirupa.com has a dedicated section for flash>PHP>MySQL

check this out - you might find
some help here?

darn ... too slow:)

seem like going to the book store maybe pointless.....
i'm hoping i can avoid MySQL.
I have enough on my plate with Flash and PHP.
so PHP is a lil easy....
looks like c+ programming?
lots of variables.

Good resource. Lots of good free info that I've never had time to go through.

I read the book 'PHP in easy steps' - cost about a tenner 7-8 yrs ago. really worth in and has form examples. you will be able to get it in waterstones and i'm sure there will be a PHP 5 version.
many hosts are starting to upgrade but you might want to check out which version of PHP your host runs before choosing which version to learn - lots are still running 4.3 + (there's little point learnin v5 functions if you can use them)

thanks. I'll stick to PHP4 looks like i have to learn a lil MySQL and Apache.

fortunately php has mysql functions that make it very easy to work with

alice ro anyone, have you bought not just the php video or other.
I'm assuming there as slow and helpful to learn from. I've watched a few already. wondering if its worth joining for a year or buying individual videos.
I'm guessing learning PHP will also help my salary....(yes, nice!!!)
- aliceblue0
Everything changes so quickly...so I don't buy the videos
I just pay monthly when I need to (or have extra time) And brush up on something - or dive into something.

PHP is easier to learn in general and most like actionscript. If you know one, you'll figure out the other pretty quick.
ASP opens up more doors from ASP.Net development and in general there are more high end jobs using .Net (better paying anyway).
If you just want to learn for the sake of having a few more skills, go the PHP path. In general you'll learn quicker and PHP life is cheaper (AMFPHP, MySQL=free, etc).
If you're having trouble figuring it all out, buy a PHP/Mysql dummies book, then all the tutorials/videos will make more sense.
http://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/…Don't worry about which version of PHP, it's all good to start with.

still haven't figured it out. I want to make a contact form
such as:
Apartment #
Email
Telephone
Comments
submit----(button)
then I'm lost from here.....
I got the MySQL...i'm not sure how that comes to play yet.do i have to upload stuff to the server? I'm not sure what it does with the info, and how to configure the button to send the info to what ever address i want?
would this be easier to do in flash.
