why do chuck close paintings look like bad photoshop filters?

(Oct 2 06, 13:35)I agree. I didn't mean to be rude but It's not what I had in mind and I'm not that skilled to be tackling that!

I just meant that since you thought you might use a grid of same sized squares and you were previously going to paint a portrait, why not assign the colors to the squares via the portrait idea

never said i was going to paint a portrait

sorry...misread you

it would be funny to take a detail of a pollock splatter painting and apply a mosaic grid to it

ironic even. it'd be so cold to enlarge and rationalize something so explosive, random and drunken.

I remember seeing Rothko's work at Tate Modern years ago, loved it!

yeah always love rothko- it's either that kind of rough edges style or the grid. we'll see!

Im curious how your painting is going to turn out. Make sure you take a pic and share when your done. Good luck :)

the painterly imperfections of hand painted flat color make it interesting

Hey Tara,
I don't know your friends taste. But if someone would be painting squares of colors for me, I would ask them to come over first:
Have a look at the colors at my place. My furniture, their layout around the apartment, lightsources and their colors, etc.If I could get a painting drawn from the base of that, that would work togheter with my place, or enhance it be either making up for lost colors or strenghten existing ones, I'd be happy to hang that humongous frame on my wall.
That's just me. Some art should stand out, of course, but for colored squares, this is what I would like.

This painting totally reminds me of the amazing doors on the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. They are wickd as each letter is hand carved and are set at different depths. Totally religion inspiring!!
