I would pay the fine

Pay the fine. It's not serious enough for you fight in court (meaning not worth the time)
I got a ticket once for making an illegal stop (I stopped when there was a construction worker holding a stop sign on the side of the road). Went to court to fight it. The first court date was where you could plead guilty or not guilty... I said not guilty and they made me pay the full price of the ticket ($95) as bail to make sure I would show up for my next court date. At the next court date it was a bunch of D.A. henchmen trying to convince people to pay the fines at a reduced charge instead of fighting it in court. I left, said "Im' not paying"... came back a 3rd time when I was supposed to see a judge, and once again, they had the fuckin D.A. fuckers there. So I finally just settled paying a "parking ticket" fine for $35. The system got me. They don't want to enforce the law, they just want to make money.

You must have fondled something if it went from 85 to 79...
Not much you can do, if you want to fight it they will make you waste so much of your time that it's not worth it...

(Oct 2 06, 09:26)I would have — except he was on my passenger side and I could not get my hands in the proper cupping shape, nor the angle :(

Just be cordial and pay the fine.
That being said, I was flying by an unmarked SUV cop at about 60 in a 35 zone (it's a fucking major highway, I have no idea why it's so slow).
And instead of slowing down and accepting my fate, I just fucking gunned it when I saw him pull out in my rear view.
I had a lot of options, so initially I was going to take the Parkway and hope to just lose him by going really fast, but figured that wouldn't be all that safe and he could call ahead to his buddies.
So I veered off an exit rite beforehand and started taking back roads.
I kept going well out of any normal traffic pattern for a car and it took me an hour to get to work, but hey, no ticket, haha.

I'd look at them and then point at myself. No tickets involved.
But that's just me,

Flavorful — you got balls bro!

honestly, if it's your first ticket and less than 20 over you can request court supervision. you might have to take a class usually a few hours on a saturday, pass the class and go i think a year without another ticket and this one gets wiped from your record. meaning, your insurance company will never see it and raise your rates.
pay the fine, inquire about any classes you can take to keep this off your record, pay the fee for the class and move on.
if he had given you the ticket for your actual speed you would have had a few more. reckless driving would be one of them, then, you'd be straight fucked in court and your ins company would have a field day with you.

it all depends on how much time you have. If you've got the time, go to court and see if they will reduce to something with no points (if your state has that). Pay a fine, you just don't want your insurance to go up. My buddy gets at least 1 drag racing tix a year. Pays his lawyer to get it reduced/thrown out. He pays a little more, but his record stays clean and insurance is normal. But normally all tix can get reduced if you go to court. Plus the cop might not show up, then, you win no more tix

Your first ticket?!? Crike! I'd go to court dimply b/c in most states they will give you probation before judgment, you'll pay a court fee of around $40, and that's it.
I got my umpteenth ticket a couple weeks ago, I was leaving work @ 2 AM after a Chinese firedrill to get a presentation done; didn't even see the construction signs on the highway, flipped the cruise control on 70...$250 ticket. Court date is the day before my wedding.
awesome timing. :|

Ugh, those double fines when they aren't working are asinine.

I'd say fight it, the worst thing that can happen is you lose. The best thing, the cop doesn't show up.
Biggity Bam..you're gold.
