Text/columns on the web

Hey all - We have a client who believes 2 columns and fully justified text on the web is the way to go..
I've always understood left justified and single column to be better for online. Rationale is that jagged right margin helps speed and having to scroll up and down from columns just plain sucks.
Anyone else got an opinion / evidence that might help sway them?

Tell them it isn't done. Ever. And for a reason. It doesn't work.
Well, once. The only site that's been able to successfully implement multiple columns for a single story is the Independent Herald. And that took some pretty damn heavy duty programming R&D.
And now it looks like they've abandoned it. The "Change Format" option is disabled.

i always thought coudal partners did a decent job with a multiple column layout for the web. it may be because they have three columns, each with distinct content, so you don't need to scroll back up to continue reading a particular item. in any case, here's the link:

Yeah, I assumed we were talking about a single story continuing to the second column.
