Is using tools like lightbox and wordpress really display your ability as web designer? Is this consider cheating in a way? Would like to hear everyone opinion on this.
I find my self browsing sites power by different applications.

Depends how you use them. If you are just combining skins or making superficial changes, whats the point?
I've seen plenty of sites that have modified lightbox in some way so it fits in with the theme of their site, they are just using the code idea.
Wordpress is a backend. If it does everything you want it to do why not use it? Just don't rip off a "skin" and pat yourself on the back.
