maybe it has to do with the fact that we see less and less of the outdoors as we spend more and more time behind our computers, so it's sort of a way to invoke something powerful and pure, a romanticised way of being which just can't be evoked with abstract swashes and drop shadows, a reminder of a time when we were younger and innocent and nature was irresistibly attractive to us in all its forms. When's the last time a panda pissed you off on the subway or a lion honked at you on the highway?

Sometimes creatives overanalyse a situation.
The reason for all the forest elements is a lack of originality.

The reason for all the forest elements is a lack of originality encouraged by time constraints, low budgets and client demands.

but the original reason must be a backlash against all the super futuristic stuff that was about immediately before it, no? then it just sort of snowballed. I remember people aaaages ago asking me to do things for them and make it 'organic'' cos they were fed up with all the sci-fi crap about (this was for electronic music peeps), so I did, then I realised loads of people had been asked to do the same thing, then all hell broke loose.

what about sasquatch? I've seen music fests and golf clubs named after him. Seen him in ads from Coors and Beef Jerky. Anyone else notice this trend?

"Just as in nature, systems of order govern the growth and structure of animate and inanimate matter, so human activity itself has, since the earliest times, been distinguished by the quest for order."
- Josef Muller-BrockmanNot at all related, but whatever...

not content to despoil nature on earth, we now need to do it on the esthetic plane

i think those elements speak of the values of a certain culture or generation, like the one doing design right now. and also of its playful and childish spirit.
