The backlight is dead.
What shall I do with it?
The clever thing to do would be wireless juke box or something.
Can't bring myself to bin it.

What is the "backlight" sorry being very ignorant

moth your 'reed board' is busted the same thing happened to me it's around £300 pounds to fix unless you can do it yourself and it'll only be £100 pounds if memory serves me correctly.
Apple used to do a returns thing as it was / is a common problem with ibooks so try contacting apple, I gave mine away to a buddy and she uses it with an external monitor.

I just did a wee check online and the board has dropped in price quite drastically to like twenty pounds......
I'd recommend you get a store to diagnose the problem and then DIY it at home nothing to lose really, only twenty sheets of the finest currency in the world.

hook it up to your tv and use it as media thingy

Hmm. The store said £300 for them to do it.
I'd be rather nevous about tkaing it apart.

don't do it! I took my old iBook apart after the screen broke and never got it working again.. and I consider myself pretty good with this stuff.
Got myself an empty shell and threw the HD in it.. threw the rest out...
