how many of yooz are using indesign at an agency as opposed to quark?
is it becoming the standard?
are most printers ok with .indd files?

i quit my job in amsterdam over quark. i ended up doing magazines in quark only.
HATED IT!
so yes, do it.

it's becoming the standard, especially in Europe, switch or be left behind...
- pascii0
indesign is the new quark 3.3

I'm growing to love InDesign, compared to my dim and distant past of wrestling (at time literaly) with Quark, its far far better

do people still use Quark?
- indian_pole0
looks like i gotta learn it (dammit).
anyone in the uk use it as a standard?
or is it just you cool europeans?
- indian_pole0
sorry, that mail took ages to broadcast through, so i guess u british are using too.
- paraselene0
we've made the switch here. you'll have no trouble with printers or anything like that.
- indian_pole0
paraselene, how big is tha agency u work for?
did u all do a course, or learn in your own time?
i've heard the pantone system/colours is a pain in the arse when changing over??

InDesign is becoming the standard.
So yes, might be worth learning it. :)

kelpie, u work in scotland i think?, we're a bit behind here no?
is it the standard up here too?
- kelpie0
not so sure mate (though I'm in Spain now, I still work for a Scots company) we had switchde a while before I left, though Quark has been the enemy up to us for a while - we do very little large scale multi page things so used Freehand generaly, its the danger of it being discontinued that really motivated us to make the switch. that and I had been trumpeting it for some time.
I reckon if you have a brain, and have used any Adobe stuff before, you'll get the hang of ID easy :)

Still on Quark 5 here. Am learning indesign in my 'spare time.' Like I have nothing better to do.
- indian_pole0
Quark 5 eh? geez, i don't feel so bad now!

indesign here for last 4-5 years, don't know anyone who uses quark anymore
- designerror0
Quark is long gone, they missed the train 4 years ago and they are still waiting at the station..
Some printshops here don't even accept quark docs. anymore.
InDesign or get lost.

we're about 40 people, all told. but only about 15 of us work with the artwork.
the designers learned first, then the typesetters. everyone's just been doing it on their own steam.

but does indesign have a little alien that comes and zaps stuff when you delete it?
*indian_pole hugs quark install cd

indesign is easy to pick up if you know other adobe stuff and quark. Once you've done a couple of jobs in indesign you'll be pissed off you didnt switch earlier. Throw yourself in the deep end.
There are still bugs with it but the pros out-weigh the cons.
