A few thoughts:
1. Lots of Castros, Garfunkles, guys named Raj with greasy curls, older gentlemen with ponytails, and an opening band (The Tyde) straight out of Lords of Dogtown.
2. Joel is back! In fact, his sideburns and beard are so prolific he could pass as Cat Stevens (at least the version that got deported). Ironically, about twenty minutes ago I saw him walk by my office, with the same red beanie on, and when I said "nice show last night" he smiled and said, "right on, brother."
3. A nice clean two and a half hour set, with next to no hijinks from Anton. In fact, he came out from the beginning and said, "All I can do is try my best" and then played the first four songs with no commentary. Of course, there are always people who come to see BJM purely to heckle Anton and get him started, and there were 3-4 small exchanges at the end, but he kept his composure, and finally just said, "I don't care what you think, buddy' to one boisterous twat.
4. I came to the show with no ticket, waited 45 minutes in the cold, and then ended up with backstage passes courtesy of The Tyde, who are awesome in their own right (and who had some powerful fruitknock).
5. Line of the evening from Anton: "I'm gonna go on Dr. Phil, and when he starts calling me a junkie I'm gonna say, look dude, I know Oprah says you're cool, and there are a million fat housewives who probably agree, but you're still cross-eyed, and in case you didn't know, that's God's way of telling fucks like you not to procreate."

kj: yr books in the mail and I've cleared a spot on the schedule between 7 and 10 for a week to read it. I should manage about 20 or so pages a night, both sides.
Will report when done.

xenicon, that's awfully kind of you. Sincerely. It's a quick read though. You might be able to bang it out in 3 hours.

BJM and the Dandy's are playing the NW Music Showcase Friday night together. Sad thing is that the Black Keys are playing at the same time across town. Should I go see BJM and let them redeem themselfs for making me wait untill 1:30 AM to go on last time I saw them only to get into a fight with a camera man 2 minutes into the set.

If you're in L.A., smoke a jib a go see Spindrift. Same vibe, different sound.
