i design a layout for this web design/development company. i aimed for something dynamic. each page has two central images with contrasting colors.
anyway, i got feedback and they showed me merril lynch www.ml.com and said that's what they wanted. i said this type of layout isn't the best type for their company, i asked why they wanted this.
he tells me that he wants a "financial" looking website because they are going to go after high class clients and they wouldn't want something creative like my layout.
i said that the look of your website says a lot about your company especially for a web design company.
then he tells me that they are looking for high-end clients and they wouldn't look at something like this. most sites he's looked at has white backgrounds. i said you're looking at bank sites.
then they show me this flash site from like 2000 and goes yeah this is awesome but they says don't use that, no flash.
they're getting me confused. why did they show me this? why are they messing with me? i'm going home.

mad sexy. your thingy with the two central images in contrasting colors doesn't sound like it would attract high class clients at all.
didn't you learn anything in design school? two central images in contrasting colors will only attract high clients and designers who aren't good at selling their work.

you need to understand their clients base. sounds like their clients are finance, realestate, law firms, etc. high paying info sites. these clients want straight forward design.
keep it real.

oh come on man.. that's mild. here's a funny one for you that I received yesterday.. "for this poster, I want something different, something really.. sexy.. they'll be alot of beautiful women at this show, and I want you to play with the other side, to attract the men.. Maybe a picture of a beautiful woman (silhouette?) holding a guitar ? Proof it to me before it prints! Thanks Dudes ! Love, _______. "
I work for a gig poster company, mostly free roam, but we occasionally get funny little jobs like this. Oh well. It's fun to make the ugliest thing you've ever seen.
