in future, make the thread title obvious to other readers what its about. cos this is a crap title and id have otherwise not clicked on it if i hadnt been told this was the one to visit :P
one thought that crossed my mind this morning and was discussing it with a mate at work ... call me sceptical, but could this just be a plot by the government to drum up nationalism to get people behind another possible major invasion to deal with the lebanon/isreal malarky thats happening just now.
cos like, dont Cobra and MI5 scupper terrorist attempts all the time that never seem to hit the news? why majorly publicise this one and just discreetly bump up security at airports?its been speculated on these documentarys about 911 and conspiracy theorists that the US government basically knew about the attacks on the twin towers but did nothing to thwart them as they knew it would drum up enough nationalism and terrorist hatred to give them an excuse to invade other countries 'looking for terrorists'

(Aug 10 06, 03:26)what I was going to say

On a related note why do SKY News always say “British Muslims”?
Cornelius
(Aug 10 06, 03:04)What Bluejam said, plus there are many connotations meant by using a word such as 'Muslim' with any act of supposed terrorism, obviously.
- Jaline0
Also, people probably automatically assume these people are muslim because of the state of the world today, so someone has to confirm or deny that rumour first.

kon23, now you're making us all sound like conspiracy theorists. but yea i thought similar.

(Aug 10 06, 05:47)And the fact that "muslims" carried out the last two acts of ... er... "terrorism" in this country.
It's not a difficult link to make.

thanks for the backup vespa.
im glad someone else had similar thoughts

erm, i don't think holiday insurence covers delays caused by terrorism alerts, does it?
- Dancer0
BTW Kon, I was refering to you first Paragraph. The rest makes kinda sense...in a weird fucked up kinda way
- moth0
Personally I think you're way off the mark kon.
These BigWigs will, and have done what they like with or without public support, or even their own parties' support. To suggest they are capable or even want to pull off a hoax like this must a life of drug abuse kicking in or something.
Really. You give them more credit than they deserve.

(Aug 10 06, 05:54)Also...
CNN: "...an al Qaeda plot..."
Wikipedia: al Qaeda "...is an international fundamentalist Sunni Islamist paramilitary organization... origins of this group (at a later time given the name 'al-Qaeda' by the United States Justice Department) can be traced to a few weeks after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, when a cadre of non-Afghani, Arab Muslim fighters..."
So honestly, I think when it said "al-Qaeda" in the news headline everyone knows who the people are who are involved. I don't think anyone thought... "oh man, this must be the work of like 21 old Chinese ladies and a midget from Poland."

great, it doesn't make me feel good about flying there in 3wks...
- laurus0
Maybe it's because of how they perceive themselves and where thier loyality lies. I believe it would offend them to be called British (not all Muslims, but the terrorists).
Just liked when there's an item about "orthodox jews" in the news.
- garett_west0
I really think anyone would be offended if they were called British.
