Help! Last night I accidentally flipped off my power strip and when I restarted I got a message Disk Insertion - the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer". I thought it was referring to my external HD so I unplugged it. Eventually my computer froze and when I restarted I got the blinking question mark. I ran disc utilities and repaired my disc but it said a volume couldn't be repaired. Now it starts up but I have big question marks for most of my apps and my desktop looks like a junk yard. Is my puter dead? Any suggestions?

time to save some data..
maybe use the ext disc

try booting from the install disk and repairing permissions, if that does no good try reinstaling the system.

theres a bunch of procedures you can go through before you get to the stage of reinstalling OSX:

I had the same issue with my i-mac, Turned out my hard drive melted and needed a new one, there about £40.

Sabon, I'm fearing this with mine too. It was over 100 yesterday and my computer was HOT. I reinstalled osx and left the house. We'll see tonight.

maybe with these hot days, try monitoring the temps on these things if you don't have AC in your house.

you can force the internal fans to come on if you put it in single user mode; kinda loud, but at least nothing will melt.
There's also an internal LED that'll tell you whether the thing did indeed overheat

good idea, greedo. I should have just shut it down for the day but it didn't occur to me that my apple would melt.
