Because it works.
- sherman0
because they are busy reading my email.
- Mimio0
Simple, they still support version 4 browsers.
- IRNlun60
no doc type either...
don't need to follow standards if you're a multi billion dollar company.

(Aug 2 06, 09:07)Because its supports ALL browsers. Even 4.0 stuff which you would be surprised as to how many people still use them.
- ETM0
Yeah, but even 4.0 browsers have enough basic CSS1 support to layout the simple search results.
I guess the ads though on the right would cause issue... never mind. ;)

I agree about the v4 browser thing totally, but you could actually mimic that layout in css and still support v4 no problem...
I just ran it through w3c - 66 errors!
http://validator.w3.org/check?ur…Seems weird to me. All this talk about standards & arguably the most visted page on the web doesn't appear to give a monkey's..

Google's taking measures: http://labs.google.com/accessibl…
- restlessdesign0
interesting...i rank higher on the accessibility search than the regular search...
GO ACCESSIBILITY!
Anyways, I can see both sides of the issue. Taking the low road, I can see why they'd want to cater to every possible audience.
On the high road, I would prefer that they pushed new technologies. Anyone notice that MySpace is already requesting that members upgrade to Flash Player 9?!? They get major bonus points in my book for taking that step (especially since they are now more visited than Google)

(Aug 2 06, 10:03)they did that because there was a vulnerability with the older flash versions that people were taking advantage of to redirect people out of myspace.
as of the layout. they've been doing table layout for years before "web 2.0" so why bother changing it now to be more accessible to older browsers. the only browser that they need to worry about when web 2.0 came around was mobile browsers and they have a separate site for it that works pretty good.

People who love standards are secretly in love with their parents in a horrible way.
