-------------------i'd like to see that.
my earlier designboom link was related to the grassroots innovation and creativity of the cuban people under the trade embargo. amazing stuff - there was documentary about it a few years back.
speaking of the US embargo I just noticed that the last UN vote for a resolution to end the embargo was voted 182 for the resolution and 4 against - the four being The U.S., Israel, Palau and the Marshall Islands.

(Aug 1 06, 09:35)Yeah, since they have a permanent fuel/ecomonic shortage after the collapse of the Soviert Union they built these really amazing inner city farms that are completely sustainable. Castro has some decent ideas for a dictator.

yes, exactly... i kinda think che would have been hated too, instead he's become an incredible icon...
jazx, er i mean garret, you spent time in cuba?? did you ever see any of these?
- mrdobolina0
I love that timeline. ahhaha
- kelpie0
most people tend to forget che chaired the trails that got rather a lot of Cubans executed and dissapeared during his lifetime too.
oops, just thought I'd be a bit controversial ;)

(Aug 1 06, 07:15)Castro plunged his country in to a 50 yr time capsule - that's why people hate him.
Also, I believe there was a split between Che and Castro due to the fact that Castro's govt was living beyond the mean's of the working class, corrupting the ideal socialist society. Che is immortalized as the true socialist and father figure (leader or whatever) to the indigenous people.
If Che had lived to be a scruffy old man who's ideals had been sacrificed, he'd probably be hated too.
