I've currently got a pencil with a line though it in the bottom corner of my applications folder (OS X).
I want to install google's SketchUp and it says i need an admin password to install it (but doesn't give me a box to fill in).
How can I remove the pencil with a line through (if I had the admin password – which I obviously shouldn't know ;o) )

well my guess would be that apple would not make it easy to over ride the admin password to install an application - hence why it is in place.

be bloody careful as root on a mac. you should never really need to use that account.

hmmm, don't really want to log out of my username. It would be too obvious. I've installed software before normally when you drag the icon into your applications folder it just asks for a password but it's not asking me now, just denying access.
Oh well, not that important.
