there was an article by buford about that book in the observer food monthly, i think. looks great, i'll pick it up today.
is this the same bill buford who wrote among the thugs? if so, i'm triple-dog going to read it.

Anything by David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas, Ghostwritten and particularly his new one, Black Swan Green.
Paul Auster and lots of Haruki Murakami - they have to be my 3 fave authors at the mo.

Melvyn bragg - adventures in english. you might not think you'd like it, but you will. Does for linguistics what bill bryson did for science. Kind of an overview of how english became the worlds dominant language.
