has anyone got a mac book and running flash/fireworks/photoshop etc using rosetta?
i am interested in getting a mac book but adobe dont recommend running thier apps on rosseta because it is very very slow. i think it gets worse when you have multiple apps open?
adobe dont plan to release universal binaries untill CS3 which will be around spring next year (i think).
anyways, what it like in reality and how much memory have you got?

a friend of mine, also freelancing, has a mac book pro. photoshop runs, but thats almost it... if u have ps-documents with a lot of layers/textlayers its almost unusable. small ps-documents r ok, sort of... as a pro/freelancer i would wait for universal CS3 next year. fireworks runs a littlebit better...
as u asked for macbooks i think its the same problem...
on the other hand, all software which is already universal, ilife, finalcut studio, runs fine and fast...

thats what i thought. i really want a mac book but there is no point untill, as you say, the universal binaries are released.

I have a macBook Pro 2.0 and a G5 1.8 and Adobe apps run much faster on the macBook Pro

I've also heard this speed stuff to be a myth.
However - for a designer, this is a weird time to buy an apple.
By the time CS3 is ready, Apple will also probably have another update to the macbook line as well. I'm going to wait.

This may sound like a stupid question, but would these programs run better on the last G4 Powerbook?

i was using a g5 imac and just got a macbook pro, which is loads faster than the imac, photoshop is easy twice as fast.

yes, because they run native... on a macbook (pro), theres this software called rosetta, which emulates a ppc, so the software can run... universal software runs like hell, as is said before...

i doubt that... but may be it depends on what u r doing, the experience here at the agency is, that opening a 15mb psd, with lots of layer... takes forever...

If you had the choice of getting a G4 Powerbook on EBay would you do that than get a MacBook Pro? (for the time being)

of those who have said they have noticed no or better speed issues with photoshop; does that include having many apps open at the same time or just photoshop on its own.
i agree with the comment about waiting for the update round about the CS3 launch as they do seem to be upgrading every 6-8months.
embarko - i wouldnt buy a mac unless it was the new intel power macs. and for that, i dont really mind waiting. it gives me time to save up anyway.
