Generally, the problem with NYC is that the prices are higher than vendors outside the metro area, because all the technicians and press operators are union. I find the prices to be a bit higher.
If you absolutely need someone in
New York, I recommend:Adam Blum
Hudson PrintingOne of the pieces they printed for me won an AGC Award for design and production.

we work with local vendors only when we need to do press runs. otherwise, we work with some pretty expensive, quality firms in the midwest. i've found that shipping is cheaper than paying union rates.

If you just need basic mass materials (not too fancy process) like postcards, business cards, or cardstock posters, I use these guys in Queens, and they cant be beat for quality, price, or turn-around time I dont think.
And then these places do real high-end stuff (but I have never used them):

If you want low prices I would suggest you deal with an online printer. All you do is upload your file, and they ship it to your door.
Check out www.clearwaterprinting.com.They are running a special right now as well. You can get 10% off your first order if you enter A5B0626 in the promo code field.
