Sorry about adding another Intel Mac question to the PVN, but I trust the opinions of NT users more than most.
So, I am about to get a G5 Tower:
1. Will the new Intel Mac be able to run older software? Because I won't be able to afford all new Software too.
2. How slow is the software when running under Rossetta?
3. Do you think the new Adobe Universal Software will run the smae on an older PowerPC mac?
4. What would you do?Thanks I love you!

Buy what you need.
However, I wouldn't recommend buying a non-Intel mac.
future software will run on Intel Macs and PPC Macs.
Intel macs are just way faster.Stuff will run through Rosetta like a moderately fast G4.
I would ( and am) buying an intel mac.
(I'm gettin the MacBook Pro)

Um, the G5 tower isn't Intel.
The answers to your query all lie in the search feature located below you.

Actually the answers aren't in the search feature, I've searched every Intel mac post already. My questions are a little more specific. And the G5 is about to become Intel in a few weeks, that's why I'm asking which makes more sense to buy.

(Jun 29 06, 13:20)eh? i haven't really been paying attention to whats coming up but i'm pretty sure Intel towers are way-off still.
- 78robots0
No, late July or soon after is when they are supposed to be released.
- cvirus0
why would it be called a g5 if it's an intel chip?
- 78robots0
No your right about that, I always call the tower a G5, but I mean an Intel Tower vs. the G5 Tower.

"Mac Pro"

i use an INTEL IMAC 21" with I believe 1gb of ram at work. It's not that bad...I was on a G4 before and its not much slower but it is slower but I manage to have Illustrator, Photoshop and Dreamweaver all running at once and a very workable level of speed with minor hiccups. It's not perfect but its not bad...however I typically work on slower machines cause im poor...but it should fly once the new CS comes out...i dont know though, but thats my first hand answer.

let me know if you have any oher questions I should be able to help...also i should add I wanted to buy a mac but I;ve deicded against it right now because of the INTEL CHIP until CS3 comes out and runs on it....I just think its a strange time to buy a MAC cause it seems like which ever one you get your kinda screwed either now or in a year.

That's actually one of my question, will the Intel macs run older software? Like PhotoShop 7 etc.
- cvirus0
my g4 died a few months ago and i got the 20" imac and maxed out everything (ram, gb, etc.) on it...didn't really have a choice and g5s are being kicked to the curb, so it seemed like a waste of money. i'm running all CS1/MX8 apps on it and i haven't noticed a big performance hit, although i've been using it for fairly lightweight tasks.

(Jun 29 06, 13:37)YES!!!
i have an intel macbook pro maxed out.
you can run all old software thru rossetta.you wont see rosetta running either.
its so fast!!!! an example..when you turn on the puter, it takes like 21 seconds to get to the desktop and you are ready to go.
i have an issue, Apple has so many updates that every time it happens, the adobe programs run slower.
i run a G5 Dual Core Tower at work and the intel laptop is so much faster!!!
and you can cook Ketamine [special k] right on the laptop in like 10 secs!!!
hahahaha!!!
- khilled0
anyone know how the dual core intels and amds compare?
- CockDiesel0
man you a-holes are stupid. These intel mac questions are just the same over and over again. How would a g5 question be diff than a macbook? SOFTWARE NEW MAC BAD ! BAD !
I type this while on my windows intel macbook. WINDOWS ..CAUSE INTEL MAC OS ..BAD !! BAD !!
- rafalski0
Intel all the way, they are waiting with g5 replacement to put newest intels (core2 duo) in. Rumour has it, they're putting 2x core2 duo in there to make it a killer machine.
- Chief0
no, rafalski, the core2 duos can't be used in a dual setup, like the quad g5. if they are going to have a new quad, it'll have to be one of the new xeons that were just released, they were going under the name woodcrest. still, they're unreal chips. boxx just released their new line featuring the woodcrest chips. hott.
- hiten0
as for the AMD and INTEL duo core thing....the AMD duo cores are alot better, faster, better at multitasking and rendering but also cost more...right now Im on the process of upgrade my equipment I'd like a AMD FX-2 but they are super pricy...im getting an INTEL DUO CORE for now a barebones kit is like $350 canadian but you have ti set it up yourself then in a few months when the AMD prices drop and SATA drives and DDR2 ram I'm going t oput another one together this way I figure I can get 2 solid machines for the price on one upser uptodate one....thats the best idea i can think of for right now...strictly talking PC though.
- Chief0
i thought i read somewhere that the new intel merom(core2 duo) chips were supposed to be way ahead of the amd's. or are you referring to the current core duos in the imacs and macbooks? i'll look for the articles.
- khilled0
the one tid bit of info i read was based on a long endurance test that said intel works better at multitasking but amd are better at high performance software and rendering but it was a thorough test and a long article so i'm sure there's many comparable features...i've heard alot of the new intels coming out soon though
