is it difficult, or even possible, to add a real time company stock quote to that company's all flash site?

pski,
The only way I'm aware of is using that XMLSocket class, because you need a constant open connection to a server. An option would be to just pass one in from another data source that can export XML and have Flash read it on load, but that's not live data.

to be updated only every 15 minutes or so would be ok

Looking all over for a solution for you, Rand. Not having a lot of luck. Seems that a lot of guys want to sell you this service but them punks don't want to give up the code.

Rand,
Do you know where the stock data source is coming from?
- Rand0
Mimio, I guess that would be part of my investigation into this. The client just wanted to know if the current bare-bones 48 hour website I'm working on could have this feature once they go public. It wouldn't have to be totally real time, could be update every 15 minutes or so

I would like to be able skin it to keep it consistent with the simple look I've already established

if you can find a free chart or quote that is in .jpg format, you could load it dynamicly. most I've seen are .gif though.
if you find a .gif one you like, you could use one of those server side image saving libraries to grab the .gif, convert it to .jpg and shoot it off to your flash movie.
if it's just the data you're after you can set up a cron job on the server that scrubs a yahoo page (or the like) for the data every 15mins and outputs to the flash movie as XML.
any one of these methods might get your server IP blocked by the site you're stealing from.
You'll find it's around ~$100
per symbol per month for a feed, so it makes sense that providers don't want you getting it free.
