Mmmm that IS sweet indeed!

you can have workspace @4:3 and tools on the extra margin if this concerns you

LCD is best. Use one for a few weeks then go back and look at your old CRT and it seems blurry and hard to look at.
Our imaging guy does high-end color correction on an Apple 23" and has no complaints.

i have one of each. i have heard that lcds are getting very good, but i do not want to chance it, i prefer to do my psd work on a crt.
however surfing or coding is muchhhh easier on the eyes if you do it on the lcd.

you gotta weigh up the monitor size, crt's gonna be chunky, lcd is gonna be sleek and give u more room, and the quality really isnt that much of an issue if u shell out for a good LCD. i think the formac ones are far better than the apple ones, and cheaper.

I made the decision actually already but now I know for sure...

and owning both the 20" and 24" the 20" has better contrast but the 24" has more real estate to work with

I was talking about an LCD with non square pixles.
my dell 1905fp (and viewsonic VA912b), has a native
resolution of 1280/1024 == 5:4 ratio. not 4:3
but the screen itself is 4:3. therefore: squished pixelswhy they didn't make it 1280/960 is beyond me.

So I guess 16:10 doesn't stretch pixels or anything.

like i said, either a manufacturing mistake or just a bad decision.

LCD. I design magazines, so the colour is an issue, and I think the LCD does quite well. Unless you get your CTR calibrated, its never going to be spot on for colour anyway. I find LCDs much easier on the eye and they don't have the glare and reflection problems CTRs do.

Isnt the Dell 1905FP 5:4 ratio? (i.e. with standard square pixels?)

I was looking at some on the bestbuy site. Are some monitors really not Mac compatible or does it even matter?

dvi is dvi & vga is vga from what i understand

$score = LCD++;

I find my dell 19" has non-square pixels.
eg: a 8.5"x11" is taller in portrait than it is wide in landscape.... at least with a CRT I could fix that. not so with native res only LCDs
also colour tends to band at the upper and lower limits even after profiling with a spider.
make sure you get an 8bit panel, 6bit is of no use to a graphics professional.

crt is going to display truer colors and handle motion much better (if you're a gamer, this might be important).
I made the switch to LCD though and won't go back.
Here's wht consumer reports' ratings for LCDs

"I find my dell 19" has non-square pixels."

my 19" dell crt pixels were not truly square either
