thanks thismanslife. your commetns have helped out a bunch.
era404, thanks. but when I tried this it got goofy, probably because things were goofy being fixed and uncleared.

Oh and the keys image doesn't show up because you have "fixed" on .leftimage-main ...take it out, you don't need it (it's "fixing" it to the top left of the page, make your browser smaller and you'll see it)..
There, done!

...or he could just do what I suggested! He doesnt need to put a height on the outer div, he just needs to make it stretch around his content (whatever height it may be) Adding clear:both to his footer should do this.

try adding a min-height too, but i doubt it'll work. he's right about the heights...
also try creating a few wrappers around the elements you want with heights. Our site incorporates that method to "fake" heights.

...hang on, were you being funny? :)

Thanks so far. It looks like I'll need to have the keys image as an IMG rather than a background tho...

You need to clear your floats to make the outer container to wrap around them.
ie. Take the float off your footer (this doesnt need to be floated, and is the last element before your container div ends) and put on clear: both
That should fix it :)

Dear NT,
This page shows ok in IE (pc) but the container box folds up to only show the height of the borders but still showing the proper width in FireFox. What am I doing wrong?
