I'm contemplating getting a 24 inch LCD from either Sony or Dell.
I'm looking for quality/price performance.
does anyone have any experience or suggestions???? it would be greatly appreciated...

i have a few of the 20" dells and i love them, but i've heard lots of bad stuff about the 24" dell, hot power transformers with a high-pitched whine.

I have a 24" dell and love it.

the dell uses the same lcd supplier as the apple cinema displays... for having the same supplier of lcd screens the dell oddly enough performs a bit better...it also has an integrated 6 in 1 card reader so you can load you digital cameras media card into the monitor you download photos. it also has a somewhat kewl picture in picture feature so via s-video you can watch cable telivision on the monitor... you also can't do this with a apple cinema display...
flat out my mac love only goes so far yeah it's got an ugly case but considering the apple 23 runs about $1299 and you can get the 24inch dell for about $800 and get a much better display.
I know next to nothing about sony lcd's...
hope that helps you a bit

thanks all, i think dell may be the winner!!! i can get it online for around 800 bills and all i need to do is put an apple sticker on it and it would double the value!... how cool is that???

i have both 20 and 24 they both rock of course the 24 is better because the resolution is 1920 x 1200 as opposed to 1680 x 1050
both dell both banging

Sony is the standard for boradcast all over the planet.
If you are looking for quality go with sony. If you are looking for price, then dell would be my choice

dell just released new models, differing mostly by uglier frame (silver stripe on top and v-shaped leg). I missed out on the stockout sale in May.
The new 24" supposedly has banding issues with dvi (ok with vga). I'm waiting for rev b. while checking ebay for old ones with warranty

samsung is the best.

that's why i returned mine (samsung) because the image burns in the screen (though only temporarily, ghosting sucks)

love my Dell 24". Plan on getting another soon.
www.techbargains.com for discounts. It was just onsale (maybe still is) for $759 or so. Damn good deal. I paid $1200 for mine when it first came out, less than a year ago.

the best thing about these widescreen monitors is that with the right graphics card you get portrait mode support
great for reading/writing
