Are there products already available - I keep hearing the term, but have yet to actually see any product?
- Mimio0
Samsung and Sony have some DVD players that are Blu-Ray.
- radar0
are they expensive?
- Mimio0
Yep, like $1000.00 USD and up. I heard a rumor that they will have $200-250 models by next November.

one of the new HD standards for dvd. displays at 1080p natively.

I wouldn't for the movie aspect, but for the storage - they have 25 and 50 gig discs.

ps3 will have a bluray...it will cost about 800 bucks.
- Mimio0
It's a new hard format. They have 4 & 6 multi-layer versions that hold like 8 hours of HD video or some shit.

thats why the new ps3 will be a good deal, it comes with a blu-ray dvd player and a gaming system for ~500

is this going to replace DVD? superior quality and storage space?
- Mimio0
Probably why they're holding the technology back, so they can release the PS3 as more of a media center. Then after everyone's got their PS3 blu-ray player will be like 30 bucks and made in China.

(Jun 7 06, 12:57)i believe so. but at least they can play your old DVDs, so it's not like a totally new format where you have to replace your whole library.
i'm just excited about more storage space for backing up.

blu-ray is competing with dvd-HD for the market. basically vhs v. Betamax
We'll see who wins

you must be productive to crank out 25-50 g's of material
