I'm sending a file over to a magazine and uploading it through their website. We're given a greyscale ad, but I'm supposed to upload it as CMYK.
I need to select how many colors (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and C, M, Y, K or a PMS. So I boxed CMYK but I'm not sure how many colors? Is a greyscale ad just 1 color, black? Meaning I'd check 1 color and CMYK?

Convert your image to CMYK in photoshop, and upload it as 4 color. That's it.

Even if it's a PDF that has been run through the magazines' distiller settings?

Come to think of it...I did try opening the finished PDF in Photoshop and it said it was CMYK, so I guess it's 4 color?

Actually, what program are you using? You have to make everything in there 4 colors.

Illustrator...then running it through Distiller at the magazine settings. Been creating it as CMYK in Illustrator, so I guess it's 4 colors?

Yeah, CMYK is always 4 colors. Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. As long as you converted everything into 4c in illustrator, and you followed the specs for creating your pdf then you're fine. Upload that bastard and select 4 colors.
