Hello Folks, i am just trying to move my library of music to my external hard disk and have a slight issue.
All the song are in the folder on the external HD and the preferences point to that folder, for importing new songs, but the other songs do not show up in the library.
Is there an easy way to make itunes read that folder, or do i have to drag all the songs in to the library manually?
I hope that make sense.
Any help would be much appreciated.

you have to 'add to library' again

(May 25 06, 08:45)Hello de4k, Will that copy them to the same place and i'll end up with duplicates?
Sorry for being stupid if this is obvious.

no.
it just lets itunes know where they are. may take a few mins but once it's done it's done.I used to have the exact same setup.

copy everything into your library. then select the "consolidate library" in the advanced menu. that makes sure all your songs in your library are located in your iTunes folder. then you can remove all duplicates like your original copies.
then, in the advanced pannel set a new destination for your iTunes folder to your external HD. then once again, consolidate library. that will move, once again, all of your stuff there. its sounds like a lot of steps but this way you are sure that everything is there and not spread everywhere in different folders.

If you just set the folder in the iTunes prefs to the new folder and then select consolidate libarary it should just copy them for you.

will "consolidate library" get rid of duplicate songs? If not what's the easiest way to delete duplicate songs without going threw the library title by title.
