Anyone know anything about unlocked cell phones?
A friend of mine who owns a software company for cell phones gave me an unlocked RAZR last night. I'm with Cingular, and apparently they block internet use (ie., getting scores, downloading ring tones) when you use a phone that isn't activated by them.
Is there a way around this? I'm not too upset over it since I was given the phone for free, but it'd be nice to have internet features.
Any help or a point in the right direction is much appreciated.

i have an unlocked phone that i use with t-mobile, didn't work at first but i just called them and they sent some configuration messages to get it working. will cingular not do the same?

Yeah, I don't think they're too helpful if you don't buy it from them.

shouldn't be the case. Call and find out, or go into a store. What's the worst they can do? Say "No"?
I've got a friend who works in some leg of the phone industry. He's given me 3 free cell phones. All he does is call the provider (we're both with Verizon) and they do some code send and recieve bullshit and it's on...

(May 18 06, 13:26)i don't think anyone is debating that. he has an unlocked phone already, and would like it to function fully on cingular's network.
