so - i'm an architecture student, with minimal (at best) web design experience. however, i'm pretty experienced with print graphics (i'm good at illy / photoshop...).
i want to design a web portfolio of my design work - how can i do this relatively simply and still be able to fully customize it graphically? dreamweaver?
any suggestions are awesome - thanks a ton

I would say dreamweaver is your best bet yes.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAH.

no laughing!
yes, i know. it's pathetic. but i figure i really really really need to sit down and learn how to do it.
been too lazy (and too busy building models) to do it so far.

Most architects I met can do _anything_ design /tech /art /computer related, no sweat and asking them if they can is an insult. They only hire web designers/developers to save time.
But seriously, it depends if you have the time and will to learn at least basic html (and/or flash maybe?) It's knowledge you might find useful further on the way.
Just design it and try to cut it up. You can get a developer friend help you at any time.. no?//chuckles

onepagers are usually good starters:

I agree. I would say either try to a one page HTML site or try slideshow pro (www.slideshowpro.net). It's pretty easy to setup and has slick functionality - I am doing my portfolio in it now to save time.

niconico. in dreamweaver go to new and you'll see a pop-up of different options. under "general" to to "starter pages" or "page designs".
Also, there are pre-made css style sheets. Use the style sheet and change the colors and fonts and such to your liking, then, apply that to the page design.
I'd go with a one page scroller for yoru first site if you're only interested in showcasing your work. Good luck.
And remember, every started somewhere.

niconico, check this site: http://www.basitkhan.com/
specifically:
http://www.basitkhan.com/structu…then via:
http://www.danieleatock.com/to:
http://www.danieleatock.com/abou…"Please feel free to replicate the structure.
If you use the template please forward your website address so I can add it to the link list below, and include a link to this invitation.
The more websites that use this structure, the more archetypal / invisible the structure becomes, and the more emphasis placed on the content.
Please tell your friends."
it's a nice idea.
especially for those artists who want to show work but have no idea about building websites.
