anyone ever had one?
they'll be calling me in 2 hrs for this freelance job (at a big phone company), and I have no idea what to expect.

phone interviews are the same as regular interviews except you are lacking
- eye contact
- you don't have to worry about fidgeting
- or how you dressSo while these are positives you have to be sure in your voice since that is all they will hear.
I think the key is to make sure you aren't moving around or pacing so that they don't hear any change in your breathing like you are nervous.
Most of the time I have been asked the famous question "What is your weakness?"
Also, make sure there are no alarms set to go off in the background. If you have any other phones turn them off. Or your computer instant messengers alerts.
Otherwise they will ask most of the same questions. Hope this helps.

same here, just take it easy and breath normal, you might not notice during the interview if you are talking fast or anything until you hang up and you go CRAP! i was rushing..
Yeah, if you have pets or kids make sure they dont become a distraction or make loud noices, I was one asked to fix "the problem" on my end and that they would call later to resume our Conference Call bc there was lots of noice in the background.

hm ok thanks so far guys.. I think there are no distractions to expect in my flat..
I think I will have to go with improvising, as I don't have any premade answers.. : /
*thinks about weaknesses

yeah, think about your strenghts too :)
have your online portfolio ready in case they want to review while you are online
- liquid0
if they ask you about your strengths you could explain to them a mini-case study referring to your portfolio.
In 3 minutes or less walk them through how you came up with the concept to solve a problem and how you executed it.
Thought process is important because they will see how you think and work through a problem.

oh man I'm so unprepared when I hear you guys.. haha
my online folio is even really old.. well
I think the required skills are mostly flash based, so I hope I won't have to go on a general excourse about design

and be confident and remember if they are doing a phone interview most likely its because you are going to do most business with them over the phone so however they perceive you right now it will give them an idea how it will be in the future

you'll be alright...
just list 2 talking points for the following questions
- What was your last position?
- What are your strengths?
- What are your weaknesses?
- Tell me about yourself (don't talk about all work here, show diversity) Tell them about college and where your career has led you up to this point.
- Tell me about your last/favorite projectjust some suggestions. they may or may not ask but if you have 2 talking points for each and you cover at least one, you will be set. Most questions you can overlap but be careful not to repeat yourself.

well, it's too late for this particular phone interview, tomkat, but for future reference, the last time i had one i did the following, which was really helpful:
i got dressed just as i would have done had i gone into the office and sat up straight in a chair and had the interview looking into a big full-length mirror. it sounds a bit odd, but i think that people can hear over the phone whether you're smiling or fidgeting or sat there in your pyjamas. it did wonders for me.
ensured that i sounded more professional, i guess.
- kelpie0
the talking to at interview of wendell improves much nien? the resource of man position ist liking wendell, I think that...

do people still use big phones?
