"a play by Proctor and Gambel to sneak under the suckdar" hahaha

that article is utter crap and probably a cynical move to drive hits to given website. The mentioned site gets so many hits not because its anti design but because its a free web dating service, geeks flock because they think they are getting laid.
The author has spouted off without thinking, I can appreciate that there are some truths when it comes to google and craigslist but the fact is that if you are selling an actual product you will not buy into hokey homecooked design, I cant imagine being inspired to buy a car or a TV from a site that looked like shit, these people have no fucking clue they seem to be living inside the internet.
I'm pretty sure this post is unnecessary

Go north. Take key from unicorn. Kill unicorn with key. Pull beating heart from unicorn. Eat heart. Wipe mouth. Go south.

(Mar 31 06, 00:26)yeah but rasko, don't you know everyone on the internets is out to get us designers and ruin our jobs? its a massive conspiracy...

I revel in my obsoleteness...

Our CD constantly writes highly opinionated news articles about how the European design scene and designers are stagnant. Check out the Multimedia section
- mr_snuggles0
somehow I don't think i'd value his/her opinion very highly after glancing at the site. Nice features/functionality, horrendous design...
Where are the specific articles in there?
- vespa0
you have to be opinionated to get people to listen to you.
i for one am sick of black and white arguments posing as discussion.

this post is probably unecessary too. but:
the reason why all these social networking sites are getting so many hits is because they enable ordinary people to learn stuff, make stuff and meet other people who help them to do what they want to do.
Good design should help them to do these things more easily, but the masses are happy to sacrifice this if it comes with an increased price tag, which is currently the way ordinary people percieve "designed" products to be.
Flickr is a good model. Well designed, free but with an option to pay for extra space.

snuggles expand on yr horrendous comment too please
- mr_snuggles0
It starts with the logo, then continues with the what 3-4? different typefaces. the overall use of space is only really effective when you scale yer browser down to like 1024, even then it's still a bit awkward, way too many focal points which leaves me feeling overwhelmed at first glance.
It reminds me of the notions from 60's & 70's of what things would be like in the future, if you know what I mean...
