Computer Problem

I have a PC laptop and I upgraded the ram to 1.5 gigs and it's a 3.0 pentium 4 proc but for some reason lately it has just been shutting off. For no reasons specific. It just shuts off. So I started putting it on a book thinking it might be having some cooling problems. It happens less but it still shuts off.
Anyone have any ideas? Another thing that is awkward about my laptop is when I pull the cord for the charger it basically says I have no battery juice and shuts down. Do you think maybe if I got a new battery and charger it would fix my problem?
Thanks... I appreciate it.

Send it in if it is under warranty. this isn't going to get any better.

how old is it?
Get a can of compress air and blow out the fan. Most laptops collect dust in the fan area and then they start to overheat and shut down. It's a failSafe.

also, get a can of compressed air and clean out the insides real well. dirt and dingleberries get inside that shit and gunk up the fans and power source adding to the overheating.
