passar a introduxão??
sounds more like portugese coz we don't have that "xao" ending.
perhaps that's catalan?
- unfittoprint0
actually portuguese has its roots in Galiza, Spain's Northwest, north of Portugal.
The accent is almost identical, and probably the only spanish area where portuguese can be talked and understood without adding a 'spanish flavour' to it.
- winter0
it's galician. in catalan would be "passar l'introducció".

yes, unfit is right.
portuguese and galician were in fact one and the same language until approx 1500 AD. It was called galaico-portugues. it was born from the appropriation of what is known as low-latin over celtic (or even pre-celtic) languagues from the peninsula, such as basque.
many celtic words persist today in spanish/portuguese in spite of the major latin influx, like:
caminho/camiño (road), cerveza/cerveja (beer), caballo/cavalo (horse. horse is funny coz in éireann it's "cappal")
and many others words starting at celtic stems like "Can", "Bra", "Cla" and endings like "nho", "ño", "ança", "anza", "emes", etc.
sorry to be such a scholar, but i love this shit.

inetersting.
I should've known that coz of the apparent portugese background from my mom's side and spanish from my dad's.
I tried not to long ago to check the exact origin of my 2nd last name and apparently it comes from an area between portugal and spain.
- unfittoprint0
what's your 2nd last name?
- VectorMasked0
but in the the spanish version would be Carballo so it's pretty similar.
my mom's other last name would be cruz, which is also common in portugese as far as I know.
Anyway my mom's got portugese blood. She was once day telling me about it but someone at that moment knocked on our door and never heard the rest of the story

Carvalho/Cruz is definitely portuguese names, and old ones at that.
cruz = cross
carvalho is the name also used for the oak tree, revered pagan symbol.
oh
and hopefully he'll be an excellent defense.
at the World Cup.

- unfittoprint0

I got nothing for this one. move along.
- VectorMasked0
having a bad day today not_lebowski, huh?
- winter0
hey, vector.
Carvalho is a full galaico-portuguese name. that's another one of those celtic words. In spanish "carvalho" is "roble". "Cruz" can be either spanish or portuguese, since both come from the latin "crux".
not_lebowski: It's not boring at all... it's like DOS: you can't see it, but it was there, ahah :/
- unfittoprint0
as winter stated, galaico-portuguese is probable a more correct label.
