Hi there,
Anyone know if there are any 'good' agencies in or around Ottawa?
- mr_snuggles0
depends what you consider 'good'..you can try looking in here, but it's all web related..

Jaline would probably know much more...

http://www.kolegram.comMGD inc. (don't mind the cheap flash anim. these guys are pretty good)
http://www.mgd.caIn Ottawa:
Parable Communications
http://www.parable.caStorm Communications
http://www.stormcom.comMcMillan
http://www.thinkmcmillan.com/fla…The rest is pretty average
- canuck0
Probably 90% on this list are web based mind you
- Jaline0
They're a bit hard to find, but non has some already down.
- Jim_t0
Awesome, thanks

Also, would you think that you need to be also fluent in French to get a job in Ottawa?
- mr_snuggles0
no, but I imagine it helps with studio's that handle government projects...
- Jaline0
Not necessarily, but they do want you to know some of it, especially for government jobs, as snuggles mentioned. The closer you get to the government buildings, the closer you'll be getting to the Quebec/Ontario border. But not really for design-related jobs.

knowing french is definantly a plus.
when i applied for the RCMP graphic designer job, my interview was made in both languages. they asked a question in french and I'd have to answear in english.
stupid stuff like that.
here are a tow more not mentionned :

(great bunch of guys)http://fuelindustries.com/
(they used to do a lot of design, but now they mostly do flash games)

Thanks, Not trying to turn this into 100000 questions but what do you think of Ottawa as a city? I'm from the UK may move over as my wifes Canadian, I've been to Ottawa a couple of times, seemed nice enough, but it was winter. Damn, its cold there!
- Jaline0
Ottawa is perfect if you want something in between both Montreal and Toronto (literally and figuratively).
It's been quite quiet in the past but more events have been coming over here. Basically, it's a good place if you're just looking to be somewhere quiet, but somewhere that you can do some fun stuff in once in a while as well.
People do complain that it's boring here. If you do find that, then just find something to do (you can) or drive to Toronto or Montreal, which aren't that far away at all.
This winter has been really strange, but the seasons are all their own. You'll get extremes of all 4 seasons within the year.

i love the city.
and yes if you're a big fan of going on on pubs and etc. you won't like the city. but there is still so much to do. so many parks. great national park, so many bike paths, quite and nice beaches, etc. so many small great restaurants. and if you really badly need to go to a pub... montreal i just an 1:30 or 2:00 drive away.
- Jim_t0
Thanks for the info guys.
Yeah, I thought it has a 'European' feel to it. More so than Toronto. Better architecture and less strip malls, and the traffic can't be as bad as Toronto, which is like a really badly clogged artery on a good day.
- Fanco0
on hockey games it can be a bitch.
its stupid. i can take me 1h30 to get to the damn hockey arena. when i could just go to montreal in 1h30 to see the Habs.
- Jaline0
haha, that's true. But that's b/c the Sens are huge right now.
Just plan ahead of time and you'll be fine :P
And I agree with Sylvain. The city is quite beautiful and there's lots of activities to do outside.

Who ever said there are no pubs in Ottawa, are you crazy!! There are ton of pubs there. Hell I was there a few weeks ago and all I did every night was hit different pubs. They are all really great too. I especially like D’Arcy McGee’s - Great fish and chips there!!

Cheering for the Leafs in an ottawa bar is not a good idea. Bad memories.
