Clients generally know what they want, unfortunately they are seldomly correct in their judgement. And having clients come to you for your 1 'style' is a bad hole to dig yourself into, unless becoming a wealthy one-trick pony is what yer looking for...

But it works for him, hes been doing it for how many years now. Don't get me wrong, i'd love to educate my clients on beautiful design and clear communication each and everytime. But if you can find something that people want, you sell it if you want to be "business successful". If no-one is knocking down your door wanting yer stuff, maybe its not that good.

It begs the question - how will you know that you've gotten everything?

skt i persoanlly dobn't care my angst is more directed at cockbandit
i was making a point though
a team of advanced designers won't use new technology and that bewilders me is all
if i was paid to do what you see now, it would be different, in fact in a couple months it will be quite different, but for now, two hours of work was good enough for my needs
who knows how many thousands ford paid for their "advanced product"

(Mar 15 06, 09:23)too fucking right I did. If you had to make the banners I've been making all day you would understand why...
...and version3, fair enough it was 2 hours work, you should probably make your links work in firefox on a pc though.

sure joyride, this is why I said earlier, who cares. Let them do what they do and see how long it lasts. Eventually you run the risk of the TDR syndrome, eventually so many other designers buy into the style, and it suddenly isn't yours anymore. Clients go to someone else who can give them that '2advanced look and feel' for half the price. Sure it won't be as good, but when do clients care about the details and legitamacy of a design?....but the big difference is and why TDR is still around is that they are thinkers and their work is/was much more conceptual. 2Advanced just pretty much visualizes and creates all that is wrong with our culture these days. The demand for speed and tricknology, style over substance...

skt,
i thought they did. what's wrong with them? what are they doing?
thanks for the heads up

Nothing at all. I asume they are meant to load content into the iframe... if so, they don't.

I agree again. back 4 yrs ago eJ was hot shit. Doing flash conferences and all that. Now hes a business man. steve jobs started the same way. You can't reinvent yourself for each client and expect to be rich. Discovery costs tons of money. You recoup down the road. thats when the hard work pays off. Its business, its not art.

joyride2, your attitude really, really pisses me off. Just what we need, more designers shitting on the craft for the sake of a dollar.
And we wonder why there are so many shitty logo redesigns of big companies lately. It's called bullshit, and selling isn't designing.

The section javascript works. The links from the individual work don't.

click the image?
- skt0
Jesus version3, it's not rocket science, I have worked out what I am meant to be doing. Fuck all happens. I open up the secions, click an image... nothing.

"You can't reinvent yourself for each client and expect to be rich. Discovery costs tons of money. "
The best, do. That's why we're laughing at 2advanced, why they're on the brink of total irrelevance, and why Tribal, TheMill, Ogilvy, Saatchi, R/GA are some of the biggest and best in the world. They adapt, they reinvent themselves and reconsider ideas for EVERY CLIENT.
If you think "style" is a suitable business plan, you don't belong in this conversation.

(Mar 15 06, 09:41)Haha... who said I was shitting on the craft. If your so in it for the craft, why do you charge a client? Do if for free then. Only then can you be so innocent and in touch. And really, i've got a great attitude. I've got a design degree, I'm good at what I do and love doing it. If your good at something, people notice, and people want it. Either people will take advantage of you or you can earn a living.
