MBP 32-bit vs 64-bit

just read in a mac gamer forum:
"the intel chips inside the imac and the macbook are 32 bit, and they are working on a 64-bit high-end duo core chip for replacement of the dual G5 chip, but thats only working on, so maybe they'll put in 32-bits in first, we'll see"
can anyone confirm this and if so, how much of a difference would it make? I'm considering buying the MBP, but doing all the research and postponing I can.
