I normally use Turbo Tax to do my taxes online. But I'm considering H&R Block this year. Has anyone used both - if so, which one is better in your opinion?

Are you a creative?
If so then don't under any circumstances use a tax agent.Get a real accountant, a qualified one. Yes is may cost a little more but they will make you back every penny plus some.
BTW H&R etc don't have to be qualified to be tax agents.
Our industry is very specific so get specific.
I did and now tax is a joy. I have someone I can call or email any day of the week with simple to complex q's and they're always spot on.
My 2 cents

i've used h&r block for the past 2 years and i've been perfectly satisfied. my taxes are not complicated though. i'm just too lazy to do them myself. i've never used turbo tax so i can't truly answer your question.

if you're dealing with 1099s and freelance income/home office/etc do not under any circumstance use H&R Block. At least 4 of my buddies have been screwed over by getting some totally unexperienced temp that they hired for tax season, costing them thousands.
Better to go with the deluxe turbo tax, it's much more thorough.

Like Greedo said, Those H&R guys are just temp help around this time and basically just run through a program exactly like you would with turbotax. If you want quality, get a cpa

I've used both and I use HR Block now. I'm not sure I can articulate a difference that is worthwhile. I'm satisfied with HR Block's software. It seems pretty idiot proof and pointed out som breaks I was unaware of taking.

i used h&r block once.
that was enough for me. the woman was not knowledgeable at all. i ended up oweing money!the next year i went to a real tax accountant and was very satisfied with my return.
i dsuggest a real accountant over anything. it may be a bit more (not too much) but its worth it. also (and i posted this in the other tax thread) the amount you spend on getting your taxes done you can write off the next year.

Have been using H&R for 3 years now and haven't had a problem so far.

I've used H&R for two years, and I had all kinds of stuff...student loans, multiple 1099s, W2's, deductables. I tried using software to do my taxes and it said I owed thousands. I went to H&R and they did everything in their power so I wouldn't owe anything, and I wound up getting money back. And I was in the office for about 25 min., totally worth it.

going into an hr block office is a total crap shoot, you may get someone good, you may get totally f'ed. i've had both experiences.

I've used TurboTax the last couple years, and switched dto H&R Block's software this year after a few people told me it was 'much better.'
Clearly, they're morons.
Beside the software being exceedingly 'dumb' (ex. every time you open a return you are asked to check for updates. after updated are installed, or if none are found, you are brought to the screen asking you to check for updates, which you manually have to skip) and hard to navigate, it also fubar'd my state taxes, and almost had me pay an extra $300 when the paper form very clearly said I was exempt.
Also, the help was useless, mainly consisting of an ad to upgrade your software and an ad to go to an H&R Block Office.
Fuck that. Never had that many problems with TurboTax, even the years when I had to do a ton of self-employment crap.

A co-worker of mine recommended a Tax Agent who deals with a lot of creative professionals. It has been so nice to go to someone who has a least a little insight of the industry and my tax needs. I think I pay $85 for the visit and it is all taken care of.

both are crap. I've gotten screwed using both.

i've been using H&R Block online to do my taxes. Been audited twice. Going to a CPA this year instead.

i used H & R Block two years ago. They cost a fortune and my tax agent was a dumbass. Last year and this year I used turbotax online and it was easy and much cheaper. just budget about 2 hours to do them, you'll save money and maybe learn something.
