Anyone live/lived in the Reno area?
I just got back from a week in Lake Tahoe and thought if I could make a living in Reno I could hit up Tahoe anytime I wanted.

I've had friends refer to it as Drano, which isn't to flattering....
It seems like the elderly version of Vegas. I was wondering more about the community, lifestyle.
I did run into The Nuge at the Reno Airport.

i don't know if i'd say elderly. it's definitely not as in-your-face glam as LV but it's not a huge retirement community, either.
if you're really outdoor sportsy, it's an awesome place to live. Tahoe is like 30-45 minutes away. what are you into?
oh, and the community is great: i'm here :P

I would say I'm an outdoorsy type person. Not a hard core North Face head to toe type guy but I like the outdoors.
How hot does it get in the summer?
I'm in Portland now and I'm sick of all the rain and the housing costs.

my best friend came back to reno after living in portland for 2 years. Cost of living is about the same (fairly inexpensive), he said. In the summer it's usually in the 80s-90s, i'd say. Once in a while we break 100.
San Francisco is a short drive if you ever want to get out for the weekend or something to avoid that kind of heat.

i wanst too impressed by reno. i'm sure it has great points, and it is very close to tahoe which is really cool. but i kinda found it lacking culture.
but its not by the beach, so i could never live there anyway.

craps and whiskey is all the culture anyone would ever need.
