headhunters are only worth it if your good. When I first started, they didn't really give me the time of day. Now, I can pretty much pick the job I want with them. If your sellable is all that matters. They are pimps, plain and simple. They take a cut of what you do. First lesson, they are not your friend!!! Second lesson, they will screw you on your rate. if they say pay is between 20-30, demand 30, or walk. they make the difference, hence why they want to go low.
Good luck!

Here's an article worth reading from Creative Behavior

a head hunting agency basically is a middle man between creatives and clients. Clients go to them with a project and they have a list of designers and they contact the designer that would best fit with the job.
My friend just talked with these guys in LA area. http://www.syndicatebleu.com/

agreed with mattyd, i guess it just depends it has worked for people I know.
yeah just got for it, make a small promo package, find a list of companies you want to work with and be proactive.

in your spare time, make a prototype of your experiments and present it to prospect clients...

ive been waiting to hear back from a headhunting company for like 5 months now. not really worth it if you ask me. you are better of finding things on your own.

what does a head hunting company do exactly?
where can i go to learn more about these?
- bukka0
You could have a headhunting agency help you out to begin. Show them your work and they get you work. They usually add %20 on top of your quote.

Also...
I think sometimes you just have to go for it. I did not have anything solid lined up when I left. I just crossed my fingers and hoped it would work out. Life is too short to sit in a fucking cube. Who is with me?

i'm the webdesigner for a company called ClearSightNetworks(.com) i'm the IT guy, but i also have to make the website (not the current one)
it's going to be a design job for awhile then go to only IT. i don't want that. i've been wanting to work on my own for sometime now.
i'll be working on creating a portfolio soon then take it from there and i DO plan on building a client base before quiting.

Also, network. Get to know what places need help, etc. Where are you currently working?

I was in the same boat. I left my fulltime thing at an Agency to freelance. The work just keeps coming. I agree. Do Great work and I don't think you will have anything to worry about...
