But the huge extrapolations in articles (assumptions) like these, are just par for the course. Just-So stories with no testible biochemical pathway and no phylogenic record of the alleged gradual change. This is actually one of my favorite evo-devo tales. It's the mistake that says since we have a fold in our necks in the womb (because our heads are bent forward - duh!) that we must have a common ancestry with fish.
