We're developing a catalogue in flash and xml for offline use. There's a massive quantity of items in the catalogue so we decided to use XPath functions from X Factor studio. (http://www.xfactorstudio.com/Ac... Now we have 1600 items in the catalogue and a complex search requires a lot of time.
I'm lookin for a faster system (one solution is to split the unique XML file in various smaller XMLs but the number of item in a file will remain huge).
Are there faster search functions or some DB systems that can be directly linked to flash without passing via XML?
Thanks

Flash php/mysql?

Is possible for offline use (in a cd/dvd)

that would only work with a web connection though, eh?
We've done almost the exact same project ages ago and used straight xml/flash, the fucker was seriously slow :/

annoyingly, whilst loading, the loaders would freeze along with every other thing while the xml was being brought in. eh, looked a bit shit, needless to say...

What size are you talking about? XPath is slow in Java. Custom DOM manipulation may be fine depending on the size of the dataset.

i guess you will have to find a substitute for PHP, maybe something in Java/C to do the sql queries, and spit out something you can read into Flash?
i dunno.

Yep that is exactly the problem.
Any of you did ever used the INM v12 DB?

The final catalogue probably will have 15k items

i suppose using XPath in XSLT wouldnt be much different than in Flash AS/Java either
