I am. I like it. I'm in Boston (work in Braintree live in Somerville).
I've been in both corporate and agency/studio worlds.....corporate is much much more stable but a whole hell of a lot less creative and it is MUCH easier work.....agency/studio work is VERY unstable (you never really know when your job or company will be done) but it is more satisfying creatively and it pushes you to be better and work harder.
I got laid off from an agency 2.5 years ago....was unemployed for a year and have slowly gotten back back on my feet over the last 1.5.....for me, right now, I need the stability of the corporate world.

i do not mind being in house. i have been working as inhouse design or dev for 3 companies over the past 4 or 5 years.
although the work is not super cutting edge and creative, (as designnaked said) its MUCH more stable.
however, depending on where you work in the company - it can offer more freedom then a studio environment for experamentation. for example now my boss-ish guy and me are doing small imoprovements to the backend admin system making it ajax and other cool stuff. the work is not required and most everyone will not realize how much work it is - but its a qoog showcase for us.

thanks, guys. I just got a call from a 2nd place. Still corporate but creative corporate vs. financial corporate. I guess the combo of moving and also shifting my career a bit is racking my nerves. My job for the last 1.5 years has been SO EASY too that the idea of going back to the bustle unnerves me a bit.

monkey, do not worry about the pace of a corporate job.....I couldn't believe how sloooooow everyone worked when I first got here.

what ldww said!

thanks, everyone. Now I'm in a panic cause the 2nd job is really like a dream job at a dream place. This role as interactive producer is new to me too (although I've done so much of this already as a designer) and I'm scared to death. :o

you'll do great...it's probably a challenge which is why you're nervous, but the best jobs usually are.
- designaked0
Ya, monkey, you'll be fine.
What agency are you working through? Aquent?

just wear some crazy shirt the first day and refer to yourself as franz in the third person. have an accent, and wear wire frame glasses. also always stress the use of DIN, and shout at the roof sometimes.
- kbags0
franz doesn't like PCs, he insists on nothing but the best...lol
my advice to you is: don't move back to Boston! But hey, that's just my advice.
franz, on the other hand, would prefer paris or toronto.
good luck, it'll all work out great...this is YOUR year!

Monkey, I'm in-house web producer for a mid-sized newspaper corp.
It is very stable.
If you need creative excitement, do some freelance projects. That is what I do.

Why would you say don't move back to Boston? Curious. I lived there for a long time and now I kinda miss it.
mrdob, what's your role where you are?

Seriously though - what an awesome place to be in monkey! Weigh out the pro's and cons for each job and make your decision on where you think you would have the most fun learning and working.

and Boston is great

I'm in-house and I'm liking it. We have a good creative director etc. so the work is pretty high quality. Freelance and side projects keep me from getting into a rut.
It's not really as stable as people think though. Large companies do large layoffs on occasion. Luckily I survived the last ones we had.
