Anyone using Vonage? What do you think?
Prices and options look really nice. Considering the switch, esp. with Qwest trying to scam me on billing over and over.

i hear Broad Voice is pretty good, according to Wired magazine.
i use Gizmo for any international calls. it's supposed to be better than Skype.

I use Vonage.
Upside: Cheap, sounds good, unlimited talk.
Downside: Have to restart router after a power blip, vonage data must preceed any VPN data (or your VPN disconnects every 5 minutes).
I'm still with them after 9 months.

haven't had it, but i hate that shit! every time i call anyone who has it i end up having to redial 2 or 3 times because the call won't connect properly...
9 times out of 10 i get a weird echo or static whenever someone speaks into the phone
F that, get a land line!

Hmmm, really?
Not good for business, if people have to call back.
The price, though, is about 50% of a land line and it includes a second line just for faxes, call forwarding, etc., etc.
*must to more research...

i've had quality issues, but for the price it's absolutely a worthwhile trade for me.

it is worth it --- a few quality issues here and there but the cost savings is a definate upside which cannot be denied

would you trust Vonage as a primary business line?
I'd love to have a fax line setup (I need to fax about once every 3 months or so - not a huge deal, but would be nice). Call forwarding for free is nice, too.

i'd rather pay double the price than risk missed calls or a staticy line during an important conversation with a client...
just my 2 cents

If its configured correctly there are no quality issues.
Ask them to push you latest firmware version (prevents echo and static).
If you have multiple routers put the voip first in line.
Use a handset with echo cancellation.
I had clients complain constantly of static when I had a Verizon landline. After getting, and properly configuring VOIP, they all remark on the improvement in quality.

I'm on vonage. Quality is usually pretty good. I have the call back issue with only one other person – on a land line. I've heard if you buy the linksys vonage+wireless router (not just the cheap vonage add-on for your current router) it works a lot better...

VOIP is the way to go.
I am currently on Vonage and it works great.
I have considered switching to another provider but for more technical reasons related only to my work
I would deffinatly shop around and make sure that it is the best for you
Vonage
Packet 8
Broadvoice
Lingoare the big players in the home phone arena

I looked into Vonage a while back and, so far, have decided to stay with the landline. The main reason...if your internet goes down so does your phone and if you're in an area that has questionable cell service then you might be SOL for a while.
